The Lubbers & Sons Tree Care story began when veteran arborists Tommy and Sosha grew tired of the problems afflicting the tree-care industry and started thinking about creating a different kind of tree company.
Instead of relying on aggressive, removal-focused sales tactics, they envisioned a company built around real tree care. They didn’t want to pressure customers or pad their invoices; they wanted to educate clients, listen to their concerns, and provide solutions that would keep their trees safe, healthy, and beautiful.
If that meant spending more time discussing options with a client or developing the right solution for a difficult tree, so be it.
They also wanted to provide a supportive environment for their crew. In their view, tree-industry professionals deserved ongoing educational opportunities, upward mobility, and the kind of basic respect that’s unfortunately rare at many tree companies.
Most importantly, they agreed that they would never put their crew members in a dangerous situation or allow them to carry out tasks without the proper training — two things that often lead to property damage, injuries, and worse.
Critically, the pair knew that achieving these goals could not come at the expense of excellence.
Tommy and Sosha were dedicated to providing the caliber of tree care they’d always known was possible. They wanted to provide service that was grounded in science, guided by industry best practices, and buoyed by the lessons they’d continue to learn each day. They wanted to do things the right way, without cutting corners or succumbing to bottom-line-oriented practices.
And so, in 2020, the duo founded Lubbers & Sons Tree Care — an outfit dedicated to caring for clients, crew members, and the trees we all hold dear.
“Regular pruning is one of the most helpful things you can do for your trees, and it’ll keep them safer, healthier, and looking their best.”
- Sosha Sullivan, ISA Certified Arborist
Owner of Lubbers & Sons Tree Care
Lubbers & Sons Tree Care takes a different approach than many of the other tree-service companies operating in Central North Carolina. We measure success by the number of clients we help and trees we save rather than the number we remove.
In fact, when you trust the Lubbers & Sons Tree Care team, you’ll immediately notice our commitment to:
Lubbers & Sons Tree Care would never have become one of the most trusted arborist teams in Central North Carolina without a team of skilled professionals who care deeply about trees.
Our team members come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring their own personalities to the job. We celebrate that individuality, as well as the professionalism, skill, and passion for trees that define our entire team.
Owner/operator, crew leader, climbing arborist (and true climbing enthusiast), part spider monkey, loving father. Former expert carpenter, master of many useful skills, chainsaw artist, mushroom forager. A true leader and teacher who loves bringing new climbers into the industry safely. The most talent you’ll ever see backing up a trailer– if trick trailer driving competitions existed, he’d take home the prize money every time.
Owner/operator, ISA certified arborist, consultant, plant health nerd, rigging and ground support specialist, administrative wizard, wearer of many hats. When she’s not at work, you can find her playing banjo and singing on the porch, painting, or at the gym preparing for her next MMA fight (she’s a professional athlete)! She truly believes you can do and have it all and she’s out here proving you can be both tiny and mighty.
Crew member, climber, hard worker. This former wildland firefighter and chainsaw enthusiast has lived in 9 states (in 5 years), is certified (by USFS) in traditional crosscut saw, and spends most of his free time these days taking care of a baby (his baby, not a random one)! He’s into all things outdoors, rugby, cooking, and his record and book collections are impressive…but they’ve got nothing on his wealth of socks (worth over $350, and we’re willing to bet he’s being modest).
Crew member, mini-skid whisperer, son of Tommy. Part of the original crew, Damon supported the family business in our early days, all while chasing his dreams (this kid is an absolute phenom on a skateboard). These days he is mostly off learning other trades (he’s an electrician apprentice), but when we’re lucky he fills in on the crew. His quick wit and goofy sense of humor help any crew get through the day.
Office manager, director of details, certified gem of a human. When not at work, she loves being in the great outdoors hiking, camping, or kayaking! With a dad who instilled a great love of nature conservation in her childhood, Autumn is also passionate about preserving native plant species in her home state of North Carolina. She is also a homesteader, artist, writer, free spirited explorer (infatuated with the American West), bibliophile, and drinker of copious amounts of coffee.
Crew member, climber trainee, curious and always motivated to learn. Morgan spends most days outside—hiking, foraging, or canoeing when not at work (working with trees is a perfect fit). Skilled with a welder and quick with a fix, often building something out of scrap metal or working on a chopper, Morgan is always up to something cool. Also a musician, an avid reader, and a friend to all dogs.
Climbing arborist, rope splicing enthusiast, adventurer. After working as a chef, Chase traded kitchens for the great outdoors about seven years ago—and hasn’t looked back. Passionate about ever-deepening his understanding of the craft of climbing as well as rope splicing, and the gear that keeps arborists safe. He’s always eager to teach and share his considerable knowledge to elevate the team (and the industry overall). He’s efficient and careful in his work, but he always takes a moment to appreciate the view, befriend the critters that call trees home, and daydream about climbing Baobabs in Africa and Blue Gums in Australia.
